My Biography

Aja is a K-8 charter school principal in rural northern New Mexico. Aja is committed to running a school where students receive high quality opportunities for engaging in STEM/STEAM lessons, activities, and fieldwork. Aja spent 12 years as a special education teacher and is a Teach Plus New Mexico Policy Fellowship alumna, Teach Plus National Research Fellow and Senior Research Fellow, New Mexico Teacher Liaison and New Mexico Teacher Ambassador. She is also a board member of the local Kiwanis organization running the K-Kids youth service club at her school. She earned a BA in early childhood education, a BA in special education, and an MA in educational leadership from New Mexico Highlands University.
